Some 343 people were watching toward the end of the recording. The last thing that could be heard before the recording cut out was the voice of Perez’s family member. “He’s dead, Carla!” the family member screamed.

An alarming alcohol-related TikTok trend, in which creators are paid in tips to take shots while live streaming, has led to at least one death but little action from the platform’s moderation team.
